The succession planning area allows you to create plans for almost anything you
wish. You can model.
The most common case though is to create a succession plan for your organisation
as it stands now. If you have already entered all of the people in the part of your
organisation that you want to succession plan for you can use this information to
automatically generate a succession plan.
In its simplest form, a succession plan is a chart that shows which positions report
to which other positions, who currently holds those positions and who could fill
these positions at a later date. Two thirds of this information can be worked out
by looking at the details of your people.
We provide a tool called the "Succession Plan Generator" to analyse this
infromation and generate a succession plan from it.
The Succession Plan Generator is available from the homepage of the People and Talent
area of your account.
What Does the Generator Actually Do?
To use the generator we begin by choosing a person to start the succession plan
at and giving the plan a name. The generator loads the person and works out who
works for them based on the manager information that you have entered. The generator
then creates a succession plan adding the positions for all of these people. The
title of each position is taken from the job title of the person and the person
is added as the current holder.
For Example...
Imagine that we had created records for five people and we wanted to generate a
succession plan for them.
- Paul Smith - Sales and Marketing Director
- Tim Adams - Northern Sales Manager
- Rajesh Patel - Eastern Sales Manager
- Jane Thomson - Southern Sales Manager
- Claire Owen - Western Sales Manager
Tim, Rajesh, Jane and Claire all report to Paul.
If we chose to generate a plan for Paul the generator would create a plan with the
"Sales and Marketing Director" at the top with each of the regional sales manager
positions reporting in to it. Each of the people would be then added as a holder
of their respective position.
