There are several places where you are given the option to view the Organisation
Chart.
The Chart view has a number of options. The default view shows you the Chart as
a succession plan, however the ribbon at the top of the page allows you a number
of choices:

Content
-
Succession
View the Chart with each position displaying the Holder(s) and the Candidate(s).
This view is colour-coded:
- Green indicates the Position has a caretaker (someone who could provide emergency
cover) or Candidate who will be ready within 6 months.
- Amber indicates a Position with Candidate(s) available in the medium term, between
6 months and 12 months.
- Red indicates a Position with no succession Candidates or with Candidates who are
longer term, beyond 12 months.
-
Default
This provides a regular organisation chart view of the Plan, showing the reporting
relationship between Positions together with titles, names and photographs. It does
not show any talent or succession data.
Depth
-
Two Levels
This selection draws the Chart with only the direct reports to the root position
shown, being the top level and the one below (so two levels).
-
Three Levels
Shows the root position, direct reports and indirect reports.
-
All Levels
Shows the full chart. There is no limit to the number of levels you can have on
a chart, but practically three or four levels is as far you are likely to choose
to go on any one chart and it remain manageable.
Hint: You can link Plans together, allowing you to split up a large
Plan into several more manageable Plans. This also gives you flexibility on who
sees which of the connected Plans.
Redraw
Click on this button to apply any changes you make to the settings. It will flash
to indicate that settings have been changed and a redraw is necessary. The Plans
to not redraw automatically to allow you to make several changes at once without
waiting for it to redraw between each selection.
Options
The Options button is available when the Content selection is ‘Succession’.
-
Enable Colour Coding
Switch on or off the succession colour coding
-
Show Candidates
You can switch off the display of candidates in the succession view, leaving the
colour coding and the Holders visible. This allows you to create and download a
chart which can be used to review the overall situation without giving away sensitive
information on who has been put forward as a Candidate.
-
Include External Candidates
You are free to add People whether they are internal or external, and you can use
external People in your succession planning. However there may be times when you
want to look at your Plans from a purely internal perspective and this option allows
you to hide external Candidates. You can switch them on and off as you require.
Download
Once you are satisfied with a chart you can download it to your own PC, either as
a PDF or as an image suitable for use in presentations.
Switch to Designer / Switch to OrgChart
As you work woth the web site you will find it very helpful to be able to switch
back and forward very quickly between the design view of a Plan with the drag and
drop options and the full Organisation Chart view which allows you to work with
the Positions in some detail.
Hints:
- You can navigate around a chart by clicking on the Position title. The Plan will
redraw to put that Position at the top of the chart.
- If you drill down into a chart, you can use the ribbon option ‘Move up a Level’
to navigate back up the tree.
- If you open a Position to see the detail, you will gain the right hand side menu
option to link from this Position to the top of another Plans.
